New parks and community space

A wildlife-rich woodland, incorporating the existing Basford Brook, will border the north of the site and provide a scenic setting for a pedestrian footpath.

A new habitat park, comprised of picnic tables, seating areas, and an opportunity for pop-up food and beverage vendors will provide residents and workers with a space for relaxing and socialising.

Footpaths, parks, and green space will combine to create a 3km and 1.8km active nature trail, providing cyclists, runners, and pedestrians with a scenic route through the development.

Outdoor co-working spaces to offer private areas for team collaboration

Vehicular access to the site will be taken from David Whitby Way, with additional pedestrian links between the site and the adjoining residential neighbourhood.

Public Transport

Bus

The nearest bus stop is located north of the site along the A532 Weston Road. From here, the 85-bus service provides an hourly service throughout the day to destinations such as Crewe, Nantwich and Newcastle Town Centre.

The bus service operates from around 07:00 to 20:00, making travel by public transport a real alternative to travelling by car for commuting trips.

Example journey times by bus
Destination Duration
Crewe Railway Station 4 minutes
Crewe Bus Station 16 minutes
Madeley 22 minutes
Keele 25 minutes
Nantwich Bus Station 52 minutes

Rail

Crewe train station is within a short bus or bike journey from the site, or within a 28-minute walk. The station offers regular hourly or better services to London, the Midlands, and key northern cities, such as Preston, Manchester, and Liverpool.

Traffic and Highways

The sites’ location and proximity to key road networks will funnel vehicular movement away from Weston, Shavington, and Basford, as well as other existing residential areas, minimising any impact on local roads.

A full traffic assessment report will be submitted as part of the planning application. Initial findings from this report have shown that there will be no forecast impact within Weston Village, whilst a forecast impact of zero on Weston Road past its junction with Main Road.

The development would result in just 12 two-way trips in the AM peak and 9 two-way trips in the PM peak along the A531. For context, 30 two-way trips are generally accepted as the threshold as to when detailed junction assessments are required.
